What You'll Like:
In North America, the last glaciers went into retreat about 18,000 years ago, a period known as the Wisconsin Age. Around that time, in the Lake of the Woods area, meltwaters of ancient Lake Agassiz laid down sediments and a raised shoreline that now stand high and dry. Remarkably well preserved, some sediment and a section of the old shoreline are easily visible in Cranberry Lake Nature Reserve. Cranberry Lake also has samples of the bogs, swamps, and peatland characteristic of the region. Park Facilities and Activities There are no facilities for visitors.
Location: Take Highway 11 to Sleeman, then go north on 621 about 15 kilometres, just past Gameland on the east side.
