What You'll Like:
This area is protected for its unusual geological features and many rare plant species, including the Purple Cliffbrake. Situated in the Madawaska Highlands, the nature reserve is dominated by several lakes and creeks, steep hills, ridges of bare rock and stands of mixed forest. The nature reserve consists of 5 parts, with one large inland area being disjunct from a moderate sized island and three small islets or part islets within the Madawaska River (Black Donald Lake). The island areas of the nature reserve are primarily mixed forest dominated by Red pine and White pine. Provincially significant plant species occur in the marble rock barrens, low cliffs and shallow aquatic marsh areas of Black Donald Island.
Location: Seventy-five kilometres south of Pembroke.
Park Facilities: Visitors may enjoy nature viewing here, although the park is without any facilities.
