Activities

Ontario Parks have a lot to offer. In fact, you might never run out of things to do! So where to begin?

Use our Park Locator to find parks that offer the following activities.

Activities by land

hiking

Hiking is one of the most popular activities at Ontario Parks. With more than 2,000 km of trails, we can see why. A hike is a great way to explore all that parks offer.

Most parks offer hiking – from gentle beginner trails to strenuous longer routes.

biking

Explore a park using pedal power! Bikes are a great way to enjoy the scenery and scale of Ontario’s provincial parks.

Many parks offer family-friendly routes. Others will challenge you with rugged mountain bike trails.

Some parks rent bicycles – use the Park Locator to find out more.

discovery program hiking

More than 70 parks offer educational Discovery Programs to help visitors learn about and connect with nature and cultural history.

Programs are led by knowledgeable Discovery Rangers and offer memorable experiences that range from guided hikes to self-guided interpretive trails and educational materials.

picnic

Food always tastes better outside. Pack some snacks, and get ready to dine surrounded by some of Ontario’s best scenery!

Some parks offer special areas for day use that can include fire pits, BBQs and picnic tables.

bird watching

Did you know Ontario is home to more than 300 species of birds? Spending the day at a provincial park is a great way to spot some feathered friends.

Bring your binoculars, guidebook, and sharp eyes and ears.

Activities on the water

swimming beach

Take the plunge! Swimming is available at almost 100 parks. Whether it’s a sandy beach or a granite shoreline, it’s easy to find a spot to take a dip.

Water safety is essential – bring a PFD or lifejacket, or borrow one through the PFD Lending Program

kayaking

Paddle the pristine waters of a park in your canoe, kayak, or SUP!

Don’t have your own? More than 50 parks offer rentals. If you are new to paddling, then know your limits and skill level, and be aware of weather conditions. And -- of course -- always wear your lifejacket.

fishing

Fishing is an iconic Ontario pastime. Learn about what fish are found in Ontario lakes at FishOnline.

Winter ice fishing and stocked lakes are also available at some parks.

Check the fishing regulations before you go and don’t forget your Ontario Outdoors Card, fishing gear, and PFD.

boating

Many parks offer options for motorized and non-motorized boating. Touring parks by boat gives you a whole new perspective!

Safety comes first so make sure you have all necessary equipment with you. You can use the Park Locator to find parks that have launching, docking, and boating options.
