Balsam Lake Provincial Park

Biking

Cycle on campground roads and over 10 km of local cottage roads (adjacent to the park).

Birding

Find a wide range of birds from hummingbirds, blue birds, cardinals, northern orioles, pileated woodpeckers, hawks, osprey and owls. Relax to the call of the loon.

Boating

Canoes, kayaks and paddle boats are available to rent on the south end of the beach. Please see the registration office for additional information regarding availability during our shoulder seasons. Personal floatation devices (PFDs) are supplied for all rentals. A boat launch and boat trailer parking is available.

Visitors with camping or daily vehicle permits have access to boat launch and trailer parking when bringing in personal watercrafts.

Discovery Program

Join Discovery staff at an Exploration Station during the months of July and August. Bring along your Discovery Activity Book (or pick one up at the Exploration Station), and use the equipment and materials provided to explore the park, observe plants and animals, and discover the wonders of nature. Be sure to share your observations with park staff! For more information keep an eye out for weekly calendar of events posted throughout the park.

Fishing

Fish for Walleye, Muskellunge, Large and Small Mouth Bass.

Hiking

Lookout Trail – 2.1 km (1.5 hours) walk through eskers and kames formed over 10,000 years ago from the Wisconsin Glacier. Enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding area. Continue along Lorie’s Link Trail – 1.7km (45 minutes) to walk through fields of wildflowers and a pine plantation

Woodland Trail – 4.2 km (2 hours) – a moderate forest trek with both natural and pioneer highlights. Continue along the Pond Loop Trail – 1.8km (45 minutes) to view the pond that many aquatic species call home.

Swimming

The clean, sandy beach is marked with buoys. Please note that there are no lifeguards posted and the use of lifejackets are always encouraged for non-swimmers.
